Etymology

Probably 'Bit(t)a's stream', from an OE  pers.n. Bit (t )a (suggested by Ekwall DEPN for Bidborough K) and lacu, cf. also Bidcombe Mill in Gussage All Sts par. 2 279, Bittadon PN D 29. The farm is situated near the confluence of two streams which flow into R. Simene.
