Etymology

Floats Fm, Floats Hall & Floats Rd, Enesebrocflotis , Enesebrokflotis 1259 Plea, 1260 Court, le Flotes l13 (17) Tab, Floats Hall 1831 Bry, v. flot 1 'deep water, the sea', here in the sense 'flooded land', cf. dial. float 'to irrigate land, to dam up water, a dam'. Such a meaning would suit the OE  context Spēda unrihtwīsra eall swā flot bēoð ādrūgude BTSuppl, 'the wealth of the unrighteous shall be dried up like a flood', which makes the emendation flōd (for Lat  fluvius ) unnecessary. Float Fm Sx 517 may be a parallel case. Enesebroc seems to be the name of Mill Brook infra .
