Etymology

Fittontown (101–879755), Fittontown 1831 Bry, v. toun ; identified by Helsby with an estate granted e14 by John de Arderne lord of Alderley to John son of Edmund Ffyton . The grant is imperfectly recited in Orm2 iii 584. The original is now Fitt Bundle 7, 10, c. 1300–30, in which one of the bounds is Ffytonnestrystre (Orm2 reads Fytounestrystre ), cf. Tristria Fyton '1384Rental , 'Fitton's hunting-station', v. trystor .
