Etymology

'Farmstead of the Britons', v. Brettas , tūn , and Monk Bretton i, 273supra . The single Brecton spelling is not significant, as it is probably a misreading of Bretton ; c and t are often indistinguishable in the court hand. The affixes are from west and lȳtel 'little'.
