Etymology

Garnshaw Ho, Granshay 1566 WillY, Garnshay 1626 PRLnt, Garn (e )shaw 1631, 1651 ib, Gurneshaw 1641 ib, possibly identical with Gram 'skebanch 1225 Font; the first el. is probably ME  gram 'devil' (ON  gramir pl. 'fiends, demons'), v. sceaga 'copse' (-ske - being a Scandinavianised form). 'Demons' wood'.
