Etymology

'Leysing's outlying farm and enclosure', v. þorp , croft . The first el. is ON  leysingr 'freedman' (as in Lazenby YN 210, etc.) or that word used as a pers.n., which is well-evidenced as Le (i )sing in ME (Björkman, NP 92, Feilitzen 319); there was a Leising who was a tenant in Ledstone (DB, cf. also YCh 1780).
