Parish in the County of West Riding of Yorkshire

Etymology

Bolton Abbey was formerly a separate parish and included the townships of Barden, Bolton Abbey, Draughton and Halton East in this wapentake and Beamsley and Hazlewood in Upper Claro Wapentake (v, 70supra ); in 1549 it became a chapelry of Skipton and its members added to Skipton parish (cf. PRBl v).
