Etymology

Rothwell is now an urban district and includes the old township of Methley (125supra ) and the townships of Oulton (141infra ) and Rothwell; Lofthouse is a separate civil parish in the Urban District of Rothwell and includes Lofthouse and Thorpe on the Hill (149infra ); Middleton township (139infra ) is now in the City Borough of Leeds (v. pt. iv infra ).
