Etymology

The townships in this parish have undergone an administrative re- organisation. The County Borough of Huddersfield includes the townships of Huddersfield, Lindley and Longwood from this parish together with Dalton (223supra ) from the parish of Kirkheaton, Almondbury (256supra ), part of South Crosland (265supra ), Farnley Tyas (267supra ) and Lockwood (275supra ) from the parish of Almondbury, and Fixby (iii, 35infra ) from the parish of Halifax in Morley wapentake. Colne Valley Urban District contains the townships of Golcar, Scammonden and Slaithwaite from Huddersfield parish and Linthwaite (273supra ) and Marsden (276supra ) from Almondbury parish.
