Etymology

Tinsley Green is Tyntesle 1353Ass , Tynsley 1565 SRS 3, 26, Tensley 1823 G, and gave name to Richard de Tyntesle (1327 SR), v. leah . The first element would seem to be a strong form of the pers. name contained in Tintinhull (So), DBTintenhella , Tinton (K), DBTintentone . This must be an English cognate of the names Zinzo , Zinzilo given by Förstemann (PN 1674), supplying the LGer parallel which he noted as missing.
