Etymology

This is now the name of a bailiwick, said to include some 24 manors, from which 'Endlewick Rents' are still due (SAC 14, 263). In the time of Henry 8 the bailiff collected rents etc. within the precincts of the Enlevynwykes , otherwise called Enlevyn hundreds . Mr Budgen points out that in fact he only collected from eight hundreds. It looks like a compound of 'eleven' and wic , though the arithmetic is not clear and the interpretation of wic is doubtful.
