Etymology

Dr Ritter suggests that possibly this difficult name is the same as Singleton supra 52, with a curious change of initial consonant due to the common use of the preposition at before it. ts very commonly develops to [tʃ]. For initial c in the DB form he compares Seighford (St), DBCestreforde , which goes back to OE  seohtre-ford .
