Etymology

Daux, Gt and Little, is Dorks Farm in 1656 (SAC 33, 148), Dawks in 1795 (GY) and Dorks in 1823 (G). It may be associated with Richard atte Douwehok (1296 SR), the name being manorial, 'Douwehok 's .' v. hoc . The first element is probably the pers. name Duhchae (f), or its masc. form, found also in duhan lea (BCS 834), a Sussex charter.
