Etymology

Puxty Wood is Puxstye 1442 AD v, Pukstye 1469 AD iv, Puxisti 1499 AD v, Pukkisty 1500 AD iii, 1501 AD ii(all p), cf. Puckstye supra 368. The wood is on the side of a steep hill, but as all the forms are from pers. names it may be manorial.
