Etymology

King's Barn is Grangie Regis c. 1230 (Sele), Kingesberne in 1281 (Ch) and 1291 (Cl), Kyngesbernes in 1324 (AD v), Kynggesbarnes 1490 (Sele ). Lower (i. 44) surmised that this was a grange attached to the residence of the Saxon kings.
