Selsey Bill

Early-attested site in the Parish of Selsey

Etymology

This is first marked in 1740 (O) and there is no evidence that it is old. The Bill is not particularly 'beak-like' in shape and perhaps the headland is so called in imitation of Portland Bill, where the term is much more applicable. Unfortunately no early forms for that name either have been found.
