Etymology

Bantony seems to be identical with Banton 's land 17th (Hodson 110). It derives from the family of Gilbert de Bamton (1288Ass ), Katerina de Bampton (1296 SR), Banton (1327, 1332 ib.).Why -y has been added is not clear.
