Etymology

'The people of Herebeorht ,' v. ing . This name like Woolbeding supra 31 is one of the rare ing -formations from a compound pers. name. For the history of the manor v. Anscombe in SxNQ 1, 203–5. According to VCH (i. 437 n.) the place was called Harpetinge al. Harpingdene in Pedinghoo in the 16th cent. Part of the manor was in the Rape of Pevensey and survives as Harebeating infra 436.
