Etymology

Redlands Fm gave its name to Richard atte Redelande (1363Hollist ). It is called Redelond , Rodelond in 1540 (MinAcct ).Probably 'ridded or cleared land,' v. ridde (OE  geryd ), rather than 'red land,' cf. Redlands in Wittering supra 88.
