Etymology

Calem Wood (6″) is Carleham 1320 Miscet freq to 1558 SRS 3, 5, Carlham 1460, 1464Ct . In Keysford Bridge supra 342 we had reason to believe we had the Anglo-Scand  pers. name Carle . It is very difficult to explain this name unless we suppose that there was also a weak form Carla , which is here compounded with ham(m).
