Etymology

In 1302 (Cl) there is a mention of Westlouente , probably on the site of the present Lavant House.

'Farm on the Lavant' (v. supra 5) in the first instance (v. tun ), and then named from the river alone. It is often difficult to distinguish the forms of this name from those of the Lavingtons infra 109.
