Etymology

Starnash is Sternerse n.d. AOMB 57, t. Ed 1Add , Sternesse 1255 FF, 1337FM , Sterners (s )h (e )1327 SR (p), 1535FM , Sternhesche 1350FM .This is a difficult name. The second element is clearly ersc.The first may be OE  stearn , 'sea-swallow, tern'—the place is not far inland and may occasionally have been visited by such.Starnash lies low, by the Cuckmere River.
