Etymology

The forms of this name are difficult to reconcile with one another. On the whole the evidence would seem to be in favour of believing that the original form was Cartstreet , with later corruption to Catstreet . Yet later the name was changed to Cade Street through association with Jack Cade the rebel, who was captured close by.
