Historical Forms

  • Old Tully Wells, New Tullys Wells 1733 SAC35,128

Etymology

Tulleyswells Fm is Old Tully Wells , New Tullys Wells 1733 SAC 35, 128, and is said to be a corruption of St Olave 's well (SAC 15, 162), (cf. Tooley Street in Southwark (Sr), from St Olave's Church), but as Tulley was a pers. name found in this district (cf. 284supra ) the surmise is unlikely.
