Etymology

Hangleton is Hangleton in 1380 (LibE ), Angleton in 1740 (O).It probably gave name to Richard de Hangleton in the middle of the 13th cent. (SRS 31, 73), v. Hangleton infra 289. It is on a slope and may contain the same development of OE  hangra as Rishangles (PN Sf 124) and Barnacle (PN Wa 20).If so, the name means 'farm by the sloping wood.'
