Fore Wood is le Forwode , Forewode 1334, 1342 Ipm, Forward Wood 1823 G. 'Wood in front.' For names of this type v. Fairfield, PN Wo 276. It lies N.W. of Crowhurst, above a valley. Fore Wood became in popular speech 'Fora(r)d' and then Wood was added again in 1823.
