Tower House

Early-attested site in the Parish of Appledram

Etymology

Tower House (6″), al. Rymans. This house was in 1412 (FA) in the possession of William Ryman and was doubtless called Rymans . Known later by various names it was called Ryman's Tower in the 19th cent, by a transference of that name from the Bell Tower of the Cathedral, the shape of the house lending itself to such a name (W.D.P.).
