Etymology

Slyfield Ho is Slifeld (e )1201 FF, 1207 Curet freq to 1535 VE, with variant spellings Slyfeld (e ) and Slyfeud , Slefeld 1360 FF. The first element must be the OE  slȳf , slīef , 'sleeve,' discussed in PN Sx 107, s. n. Slifehurst, where it is pointed out that the word may have been used in some such topographical sense as 'slippery place.' Slyfield lies low by the Mole, and Slyfield Green infra 151 lies by the Wey.
