Etymology

Ranmore Common is Ranmer 1749 B, 1765 R, Ranmore Common 1798 Wootton ParReg. As it lies on the parish boundary, it is possible that the first element is OE  rān , 'boundary strip.' For this element v. Rhon Hill (PN Bk 55) and cf. Randleys supra 82. The second element is (ge)mære.
