Etymology
Flower Fm (6″) is le Flore n.d. AD ii, Flore 1274 FF, 1332 SR (both p), 1466 FF, Flower oth. Flore 1673 LGo, 1738Recov .This name seems to be the OE flōr , and to be identical in origin with Floore (PN Nth 82). No early remains have been discovered here, but the place is near the old road at Stratton infra 319, and it is possible that a tessellated pavement, the remains of a Roman villa, may once have existed on or near this spot.
