Etymology

Blindley Heath is Blyndley Heathe 1559 LGo, Blyndlye heath (e )1585Egerton , 1608 SAC ix. It is possible that the place is to be identified with Lindelegh , Lyndelegh 1313 Ipm, wood called Lynlee 1365 Cl, the later initial b being due in part to folk- etymology. The meaning would then be 'lime-tree clearing.'v. lind , leah .
