Etymology

Aldercoombe is Utercumbe , Ultercumbe , Hultercumbe 13thSt Thomas , Altercombe 1530 ib., Alder Coomb 1839TA . The forms are too few for certainty but the first element is possibly OE  heolstor , 'hiding place,' as in Hylters (PN Sx 49). v. cumb .
