Etymology

GRACE DIEU (lost), Grace Dieu Nunnery in Rutlandshire 1786 CR. There is fragmentary evidence for a convent for nuns of the Cistercian order in Tinwell (not to be confused with Grace Dieu Priory in Belton Lei, a foundation for Augustinian canonesses). No early p.n. or f.n. evidence for a convent survives for Tinwell, but cf. None Stalls in Braunston f.ns. (a) and Nunesland in Exton f.ns. (b) which may refer to land owned by such a foundation, v. Churches in Rutland , Rutland Local History Society Vol. 11 (1988), s. n .
