Etymology

Holbeck Fm is Holebek c. 1180Welbeck , 1276FF , Holbech 1316 Ch, Holbek 1332SR , 1387FF , 1392 Pat, Hawbeke 1551 ib., Holbeck al. Howebeck 1564EcclComm , Holbeckes 1689 SR, and the stream is originally referred to as on holan broc 958 (14th) BCS 1029, a compound of holh and broc , 'hollow stream' or 'stream in the hollow,' but the Scandinavian bekkr was early substituted as second element.
