Gibbetdale Wood. Cf. Gybbe pyttes t. Hy 2NewsteadB , Gybyittes (sic)16th Dugd vi, Gippet Dale c. 1825 O.S. Gybbe may stand for Gilbert , the sometime owner of these pits , probably a quarry, but no certainty is possible.
