Etymology

Hare Hill (lost), (apud ) Harille 1186–1210, 1189–90 Holme, Harehil 1186–1210ib , Harehill 1303 Pat, Hornhill 1749 Bowen.The first el. is more likely to be OE  hara 'hare' than OE  hār 'grey'. The place was on the Bure, opposite Woodbastwick. The court of the Abbey of St Benet was held at Hare Hill in the 12th cent. (v. Holme II 228).
