Etymology

The first element is a Scand byname, recorded in OWScand  as Grábarði 'Greybeard' (v. LindB s.n.), the second element OScand  ferja 'ferry'. The ferry was over the Bure to Woodbastwick. A fair was held at the place for ferrying twice a year.
