Historical Forms

  • Palmers grene 1608 LRMB
  • le Palmere 1341 FF
  • Palmer 1598 Sess

Etymology

Palmers Green is Palmers grene 1608LRMB and is to be associated with the families of Matthew le Palmere (1341 FF) and Richard Palmer (1598 Sess). It may be noted, however, that as early as 1205 (FF) there is mention of a field in the parish called Palmeresfeld , so the family may have been in the neighbourhood at a much earlier date. The surname Palmer means 'pilgrim .'
