Etymology

Nup End is le Upende t. Ed 2, le Uppend t. Hy 4Stowe , Nuppendefeld 1409Ct , le Nopende 1451 ib. and was the home of Roger atten Uppeende (1341WAM ). 'At the up end,' either with reference to its height above Codicote village or because it is at the extreme north end of the parish. For initial n from ME  atten , 'at the,' cf.
