Etymology

Hollowdane Spring (6″) is Haldenesfeld t. Ed 1, Haldenefeld , Halledenefeld t. Ed 2, Haledenefeld t. Ed 3Stowe . The first element may be healh, 'angle, corner,' etc. the wood being near a corner of the parish, v. denu , feld . For spring (= wood, copse), v. infra 259.
