Etymology

Curves Hill, grove called the Kyrves 1559, 1565GR 421, Carves Hill 1830 M. This is probably from OE  cyrf 'cutting, cut', and since the name appears to have denoted a wood it may have been used in some such sense as 'the cutting down of trees'; the place is on the edge of the forest-land.
