Etymology

'Lud's marshland', v. mōr . The first el. is the OE  pers.n. Lud (d ), a strong form of the OE  Luda proposed for Ludworth (Db 143); a pers.n. of similar form may occur in ludescumbe 955–9 BCS 936 (in Olveston iii, 123infra ). On the assimilation to Ledge - cf. Phonol. § 44 (b ).
