Ringer's Fm

Early-attested site in the Parish of Terling

Historical Forms

  • Renggers 1318 Ipm
  • (le) Ryng(g)ers 1322,1354 Cl 1442 FF

Etymology

Ringer's Fm is Renggers 1318 Ipm, (le ) Ryng (g )ers 1322, 1354 Cl, 1442FF and is clearly to be identified with the “inheritance of John Renger in Terling” (1277 Ipm). The early use of le Ryngers to describe the manor is noteworthy. It has its parallel in le Gras s. n. Graces supra 235 n. 4 and The Roos infra 539–40.
