Etymology

Gooshays is Gos (h )aye 1334 Fine, 1335 Cl, Ipm. 'Goose enclosure,' v. gos , (ge)hæg. Owing to the prominence of a family whose surname was derived from this place, the name early became manorial in form, Gosayes 1378 HPD, Gos (s )ayes alias Gosaus , Gosoys 1448–54 Inq aqd, 1460 IpmR, Goscys , Goseyes 1500–15 ECP.
