Etymology

Ryes is Siricesleam in 1086 (DB). Then it appears as Ryse Morses 1538–44 ECP, Marsez 1544 LP, Rize 1594 N, Rise and Morses 1656–9Depositions , Rise or the Rye 1777 C. The first name means 'leah of Sigeric .' The later name is from OE  hris, 'brushwood.' Marsez is a manorial addition. Ralph de Marci held here in 1086 (DB).
