Etymology

'Bagot 's farm,' v. by . A family of Bagot lived here at the end of the 12th century (cf. Warter 7 d, OblR 83). This is another instance of the use of by as a place-name element in post- Conquest times. The name is translated terre de Bagot 1288Warter 32.
