'Foxes' valley', OE  fox, genitive pl. foxa , + denu . Identical with Foxton Northumberland NT 9705, Foxden 1324, Foxton 1538 NbDu 89, but different from Foxton Cambridgeshire TL 4148, Foxetune 1086 PNCa 83, Leicestershire SP 7089, Fox (es )tone 1086 and North Yorkshire, Foxtun (e ), Foxton (a ) 1088 etc. PNYN 215.
