Kingston 115. In 1086 DB this manor is not named but is included in the royal group of manors headed by Wimborne M. (Eyton 87, VCHDo 365). In 1230 FF the manor was granted to John de Lasey , earl of Lincoln, cf. Henry de Lacy 1268Ass , 1284 Pat, etc, v. Hutch3 3233. The present 17th cent, house replaced the earlier one described by Leland as 'a fair maner place', v. hall . The bounds of the manor of Kingston Lacy are given in 1591DLMB (Vol. 116, ff. 23–24), v. also CleggWim 203 ff. The forms Kingston Crusis 1537, Kingston Crucis 1538Midd probably belong here, the affix representing gen.sg. crucis of Lat  crux 'cross' as in Ampney Crucis Gl, cf. (land at ) Crowche Crosse 1535ib , from crūc 3 'cross' with explanatory cros .
