Etymology

The second el. is brycg 'bridge', probably used here in the sense 'causeway through marshy ground' with reference to the road E of the farm which crosses a tributary of R. Allen near Marsh Barn. The first el. may be the OE  pers.n. Cēola , or ceole 'throat, channel, gorge' (perhaps with reference to the course of the road near Daffodil Copse), cf. Chilgrove Sx 49.
