Etymology

'The broad ford', v. brād , ford , cf. Bradford P. 1 334. The ford was no doubt on the tributary of R. Allen flowing to the N of the farm, perhaps where this was crossed by the Badbury Rings-Old Sarum Roman road (Margary 4c). The Brianus de Insula who was here in 1212 Cur, 1224 ClR (cf. Reg ' de Bryene 1351HarlRoll ) also gave his name to Bryanston par. supra .
